The Rise of Organic Farming in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh has emerged as one of India’s leaders in natural and organic farming, with its ambitious Andhra Pradesh Community Managed Natural Farming (APCNF) program. The initiative is transforming agriculture by moving away from chemical inputs towards eco-friendly, low-cost, and sustainable practices.

Organic farming in the state is not only improving soil health but also reducing input costs for farmers. Crops like paddy, pulses, millets, and vegetables grown naturally are fetching better prices in niche markets. Farmers report improved yields over time, increased resilience to pests, and higher profits compared to conventional farming.

Beyond economics, the approach is restoring biodiversity in farmlands, reducing groundwater pollution, and cutting greenhouse gas emissions. With millions of farmers already shifting to natural methods, Andhra Pradesh aims to become the first state in India fully committed to chemical-free farming.
